What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

These following topics are the core beliefs of First Baptist Church | Chatsworth, GA based on the foundational truths taught in the Holy Bible; the infallible Word of God penned by His Prophets and Apostles through the divine inspiration of God the Holy Spirit. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is both the creator and master over all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory, honor, and praise, as all was created by him for this purpose.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. In Him, there is no darkness at all. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Revelation

God has revealed who He is to us through the Holy Scriptures, through all of creation itself, and most importantly through His son, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus is the prophesied Christ/Messiah promised in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible to those who believe and trust in Him for their salvation. He Himself is God the Son; the visible, incarnate image and Deity of the invisible God.

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's own image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations.

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God and placed the curse over all of creation ever since that time. This curse is what everything inherently broken about creation is: death, suffering, etc. It is because of their original sins that all of their descendants (mankind), have been born with a sin-nature. This sin-nature is what makes all of us naturally inclined to sin continuously. Since all of us have, and continue to, sin, we are all separated from God and are subject to the curse. "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned" - Romans 5:12

Salvation

Although the entirety of mankind has sinned and is responsible for the broken creation we live in, Jesus Christ who is God the Son, in His infinite love for us, came to reconcile us with God regardless of the cost. He humbled Himself and stepped down from His throne of glory in Heaven to live with us. He lived a life completely without sin and willingly suffered and died a criminal's death on the cross to pay for the penalty of our own sins in our place. In this way, our sins which separate us from God have been totally paid for by Jesus Christ, and there is no longer any condemnation for those whom He has born their sins. God raised him from the dead and now, by unmerited grace, offers the free gift of eternal life with Him in Heaven to all who, by faith, follow Christ as their Lord and Savior from their sins. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.

The Church

The Church is the group of people who truly believe in Christ's message and trust in Him for their salvation. They are meant to be the visible body of Christ on Earth, sent throughout the entire world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of salvation from sin through Jesus Christ.

Resurrection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.
